JOB DESCRIPTION

The Portland Art Museum’s mission is to engage diverse communities through art and film of enduring quality and to collect, preserve, and educate for the enrichment of present and future generations. The Floor Supervisor is responsible for operation of the Museum’s retail shop, including driving daily sales and supervision and scheduling of floor staff. The Floor Supervisor will help prepare the gift shop floor and stock themes for upcoming exhibits, including Paris 1900 and Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, and Mexican Modernism.

 

This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Compensation is $19-20 an hour, depending on experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works side by side with floor staff setting the tone for exemplary customer service
  • Hires, supervises, trains and motivates floor sales staff
  • Manages daily sales reconciliations; cash handling
  • Responsible for maintaining adequate and orderly stock in the stockroom and on the floor
  • Responsible for overall housekeeping and appearance of shop
  • Accountable for customer safety
  • Assists with regular inventories of merchandise
  • Acts as primary liaison to POS vendor
  • Assists buyer with special and fill in orders
  • Responsible for processing shop staff timecards and performance reviews
  • Responsible for coordinating with other departments for staffing for after hours events, book signings etc.
  • Promote equity and inclusion goals and support the work in the museum
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Works effectively with volunteers, Museum staff and diverse public
  • Accuracy, attention to fiscal detail, and the ability to perform under time constraints
  • Associates’ in business management, fine arts, or similar and 2 years’ experience in successful retail management of a specialty retailer
  • Electronic retail POS experience
  • Visual display experience
  • Willing to lift 30 lbs and stand on feet all day
  • Available to work weekends
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • High level of integrity, creativity and resourcefulness
  • Skills in prioritizing a variety of shop tasks including merchandise ticketing, displays and housekeeping etc.
  • Responsible for meeting daily, weekly, and monthly sales goals
